Originally released on Twin/Tone in 1990 but reissued on Caroline's Red Decibel subsidiary in 1993 (possibly because Dave Pirner of then-hot Soul Asylum had produced the album), the self-titled debut by the Coup de Grace is a mixture of hardcore thrash and speed metal. The two styles fit together so well -- after all, Metallica and the Melvins are just two fruits from the same Blue Cheer-meets-Black Sabbath tree -- that it's at times impossible to distinguish which elements of which songs come from which antecedent. ...
