Absolutely charming as well as informative!

(This is a review of the 1945 edition)
If you love the outdoors you should give this book a look. Its quaint outlook on life and irrepressible enthusiasm for cabins great and small are infectious. If you are good with your hands, all the better...by the middle of the book you will want to go out to the woods and begin building!

In addition to advice and instructions (with illustrations) on how to build various sizes and types of cabins, Meinecke gives suggestions, with maps, for entire layouts of multi-cabin areas. There are also plans for fireplaces, both in-cabin and outdoor, and recipes for preparing meals in the great outdoors.
