Poignant history and action

My first book from Ted Dekker... and it was GREAT! I believe this book is much different than Dekker's usual suspense novels (I believe so, although I haven't read them yet). A.D. 30 stands alone in its poignancy and intimacy with Yeshua.

I was met with action, history, deep emotion, love. And Jesus.

So much Biblical information did I learn -- about the Bedouin and Thamud tribes living in Israel and Palestine -- about camels -- about the desert -- about Herod -- about how Jesus was perceived in the eyes of the people who flocked after him. This fictional book shows a Christian how little we think we know about the ancient stories of the Bible -- the culture of the peoples and how things appeared to them as the actual events took place. It's not always the same as how we in modern day remember an old Bible story.

The drama builds as the pages whip by. As I neared the final chapters, I could hardly see how the story could come to a satisfactory end in what little remained. I fought for Maviah and willed her to continue on the journey her father requested of her -- even though fate seemed against her. The path to faith and forgiveness is showcased well.

I've heard there is a sequel coming in late 2015, and I eagerly await its publication.
