Invisible Republic: Bob Dylan's Basement Tapes

by

Show Synopsis

Out of the basement of a house called Big Pink came music that is as seductive and baffling today as it was thirty years ago. Greil Marcus's long-awaited book follows Dylan's historic 1964 rock 'n' roll debut at the Newport Folk Festival, which prompted accusations of a betrayal of folk music and values. Marcus thinks the secret Basement Tapes were Dylan's response to the furor, never meant for release. The mystery, however, of the Basement Tapes remains in the music.

brilliant

Absolutely brilliant exploration of dylan's music in relation to a particular culture in this country -- the redbrick, scruffy underside of America.
