Great Book!

Bill Peet is one of my favorite children's authors. His stories are well-written, funny, and extremely well-illustrated.
The Ant and the Elephant is a story similar to Aesop's fable of the mouse and the lion. The cheery elephant helps everyone, including a grumpy lion, a snooty giraffe, and a grateful ant who promises to return the favor. The elephant does not see how he could ever need help, but thanks the ant for the offer. When the elephant falls down a ravine, the ant comes to his rescue. "I came to help," he says, "and I brought fifty thousand of my ant friends!" (I don't remember the actual number of ants he brought with him - it was a lot).
