Mahmoud Darwish

Mahmoud Darwish was born in Palestine, but his family were driven out by the Israelis in 1948. He returned to a state of internal exile, as an inferior citizen in the Jewish state and in more than 30 books of verse, he expressed feelings of exile and dispossession which he shared with other Palestinians. In the years since his death, in 2008, appreciation has grown of his embodiment of the Palestinian spirit.
