Celebrated social commentator Kunstler's previous works have explored the age of globalization and mankind's explosive progress and their resulting dire consequences. His latest book is a work of sobering speculative fiction that brings to life what America might be, a few decades in the future.

Great story, terrible ending

I really enjoyed reading this book, all the way to the end, and then was left thinking, "Kunstler must have gotten bored or tired or something." He creates an amazing world, and a great story, then leaves you completely dissatisfied. I'd still recommend it for the first 90% of the novel.

The author does an excellent job of depicting a future world forced into a simpler time. The characters and settings are richly imagined and the flow of the novel is quick. Although I was dissapointed by the end of the book, the majority of the story was throughly engaging and entertaining.

Excellent book that addresses so many of our current problems, and shows a very probable scenario being played out. highly reccomended reading for the person who refuses to bury their head in the sand.
