Classic Stuff

Balzac chronicles French society in the early 19th century. The quest for quick riches and high society status is the topic. Old Goriot dotes on his two daughters, both of whom love him for his money. When the money is gone, they have no use for him. Before reading Old Goriot, read some reviews about the various translations. The 1946 version I read had good and bad moments due to translation issues. Try a version translated recently.
