More Pricks Than Kicks

Show Synopsis

His first published work of fiction (1934), More Pricks Than Kicks is a set of ten interlocked stories, set in Dublin and involving their adrift hero Belacqua in a series of encounters, as woman after woman comes crashing through his solipsism. More Pricks contains in embryo the centrifugal world of Beckett's men and women. She lifted the lobster clear of the table. It had about thirty seconds to live. Well, thought Belacqua, it's a quick death, God help us all. It is not.

Many good laughs !

This small volume of ten stories are written largely in sequitur order, ending with the projected demise of Belaqua Shuah, and the after thoughts of his grave digger.
If the reader is familiar with this first book, he will recognize several favorite subjects repeated here.: Smeraldina, Alba, PB the polar bear friend, and the Jesuit priest !
Beckett has again used the occasional four language reference phrases: french, italian, german and latin ! The reader would also benefit from a convenient dictionary to search out remote nouns and adjectives ! However , Beckett is at his very best in this satirical account of his wedding to Thelma bboggs ! two small b's ! This is Beckett at his best !! You will enjoy this five star book !
