D'Orso, a writer and reporter, tells the extraordinary story of the Rosewood massacre in 1923, during which the residents of the small village of Rosewood, near Florida's Gulf Coast were driven from their homes, many of them murdered. He traces the lives of the survivors, as they each made their way through the heart of this century, and chronicles the lives of both blacks and whites who were touched by this tragedy.
