One of the Great Standards...

Walter Piston's "Harmony" was THE standard text for studies in harmony over four decades ago and has continued to be so with each succeeding edition.

If you are studying music, whether in the classroom or through informal self-study, Harmony will be your closest and most significant companion on your journey.

If you are an aspiring composer or arranger, Piston's Harmony will prove a priceless aid.

Understandable

This is a great introduction to the fundamental principles of harmony. The writing is accessible and interestingly written. Perhaps this book is not as thorough as Schoenberg's book on harmony, but it is still a terrific resource and it is infinitely easier to comprehend.
