Francesco Durante (1684-1755) was a Neapolitan composer, the teacher of various composers including Pergolesi, and more or less the founder of the Neapolitan school in the 18th century. His Requiem was apparently well loved in its time: it was never published, but it has been found in more than 50 manuscript copies from all over Europe that have been gathered and edited into a performing edition here by the conductor Stephen Darlington.
