With co-producer Lou Bradley, Haggard wisely keeps things spare, simple, and direct, letting the 1999 version of the Strangers, along with a number of studio musicians, treat these songs gracefully. Haggard's voice isn't what it used to be, but it's not bad, either, and he turns in respectable, enjoyable renditions throughout the album. ...
