Clear, focused and necessary!

James' book of essays is an absolute must for anyone in search of the light who does not want to be burdened by polemics or ideology; his lucid style and clear thought are a fascinating and edifying guide through the worlds of history, politics, religion and culture. Bravo for an exhilarating voyage through the sparkling waters of the mind of a brilliant cultural traveler!

Great book

This book covers a lot of important writers, artists and there work (and gives you some new ideas how to interprete the world).

But be warned. It is not a book for one time reading. You need patience, time and sometimes a dictionary.

Nothing more to say .. just get it ;=).
