Cromwell: Our Chief of Men

by

Show Synopsis

The central purpose of this book is the recreation of Cromwell's life and character, freed from the distortions of myth and Royalist propaganda. Of Cromwell's fitness for high office, the book leaves no doubt - under his rule English prestige abroad rose to a level unequalled since Elizabeth I.

The book was great, it was the UK edition in very good condition. It arrived very quickly.

Oliver Bloody Boring Cromwell

I'm sure My Lord Protector was a much more interesting and dynamic man than presented in the pages of this quagmire of a biography. I stopped slogging through about half-way through. It's repetitious and just too difficult to read. Sentences are convoluted; 100 words are used when 15 or 20 would suffice. Not at all as interesting as some of Lady Antonia's other biographies.
