Perriand s life and work has been published widely in French, yet hardly anything is available in English. Moreover, a comprehensive monograph covering all aspects of her oeuvre has been lacking altogether in either language so far. This major gap is now being closed with the new three-volume book "Charlotte Perriand: Complete Works." The initial volume looks, besides of her early life and education, at the years of collaboration with Le Corbusier and the "equipment de l habitation," and investigates her role as a precursor in the use of tubular steel in interior design. It documents Perriands work in photography, especially large-size photomontages, and her militant years during the 1930s with her various public engagements. Light is shed also on her interest in prefabricated residential architecture. And it documents her partition from the Rue de Sevres, Le Corbusier s studio, before the war.
